Hawaiian Kona coffee is a type of Arabica coffee. There are two main types of coffee species; Robusta and Arabica. Arabica beans have a unique fruity and sweet flavor, are harder to cultivate, and for that reason it is more expensive and more popular than Robusta coffee.
Arabica coffee branches off into different flavors depending on the region of cultivation. Some examples of different varieties of Arabica beans are Colombian, Java, Sumatran, Kenyan, and Hawaiian Kona.
Kona Coffee trumps other arabica beans because of the rich volcanic soil and climate near the Kona Mountains. The weather in the Kona region allows for the Arabica plant to thrive the best compared to other regions Robusta coffee has more caffeine, less sugars, and is easier to cultivate.
